Following a fantastic result in their previous match the Lisburn Ladies were hoping for success in their Plate semi-final match against Monaghan. After a well fought game against a very strong team unfortunately Lisburn lost by 57 shots to 80. The two winning rinks of the day were skipped by Muriel McLernon and Thelma Irwin.
Aside from the result of this match, the Lisburn Ladies are to be congratulated in reaching a semi-final stage. Can anyone recall when Lisburn last reached the semi-final or finals of the Cup or Plate? The Green book records Lisburn winning the McIlroy Cup in 1978-79 and again in 1982/83.

On Saturday 11th January 2020 the Lisburn ladies met West Down in the Quarter Finals of the Ladies Inter Zone Plate competition. West Down were the winners of the McIlroy Cup last year so we knew we had some very stiff competition. After some fine bowling from Lisburn during the first half Lisburn were in the lead at half time by 5 shots. Again the second half produced some fine bowling from Lisburn and the atmosphere was tense as Sally Cushnahan and Patricia Halliday played their final bowls, both rinks getting shots which evened the overall scores. Patricia’s rink as last to finish had to play a tie end, so no pressure on the players. Lisburn lying 2 shots as the two skips (both Patricia) played their bowls, Lisburn Patricia seeking to protect and West Down Patricia aiming for the jack! What a nerve-wrecking few minutes! West Down’s last bowl knocked one shot out of the head and after a measure the umpire confirmed Lisburn had the shot. The Lisburn team and supporters were ecstatic at their victory.
Well done to all the players and thanks to our many supporters on the day.

The Ladies first match was on Saturday 9th November 2019 away to Mid-Tyrone. Regrettably for the Lisburn Ladies, the opposition was very strong and all our rinks were well beaten.
